Glorious 1920s Print Silk Chiffon Dress in Pink, Black and Ivory

This is a glorious 1920s print silk chiffon. It’s a wonderful color range and print, with loads of details. Stick with me. The back has a cutout neckline with chiffon cascade. The dropped waist has a gathered tier of chiffon coming from under 2 coordinating silk taffeta appliqués at the hips  that then have 3-D flowers with beaded centers applied. This tier runs around the back only with gathers at the hip. Then there is another long hand gathered tier with an asymmetrical hem, again with  a lot of fullness. This wraps over itself. Under this - a third layer of chiffon in a narrow skirt, and under it all, a cream crepe silk  slip with a scalloped hem. Lots of bind edges. And a slip under the bodice as well. Side snap closures in both the chiffon and crepe layers.

There is also an original jacket that is in the matching taffeta. It is in poor condition, but we will send it to keep the set together.

1950s Vintage Sequin Organza & Print Cotton Party Dress
by David Hart

NEW LISTING  This is a bit complicated, so follow along: This dress has 3 layers. First, a black and green net tulle petticoat is hung on a cotton print yoke. Then, the same cotton print of abstract roses in black, green yellow and pink is the base of the dress and is overlaid with pale green silk organza that softens the boldness of the print. This organza then has black, white and rose sequins highlighting some of the abstract roses. The fit is very 50s  - darted bodice with wide open neckline and full flared skirt. Closes with a side metal zipper.
David Hart. Inc. is a bit mysterious. This company seems to have specialized in rather  interesting party dresses with a lot of detail or tricky design features. Frances Pepper was a high end boutique in Jackson,Miss. from approx 1946  - 1992.

This day dress is a brilliant red wool crepe from the 1980s with curved raglan shoulder seams, channel stitched collar detail, bound buttonholes and large gold tone buttons. 1950s Nude Tone Textured Satin Halter Neck Party Dress

This color is impossible to describe! Nude tone? Peachy Pink? Pale Reach Rose? The fabric is easier: a textured satin, and most likely a synthetic. The style is great. You cannot go wrong with a 1950 halter dress. This one has a tailored collar and neck band with sweetheart neckline. The fitted bodice is darted and the flared skirt  is quite long. Depending on your height, it is ballet, ankle or full length. I think this would be great with a wide accent belt in a contrast pop of color.

Chic 1960s Black Cocktail Dress with Nude Inset & Rhinestones

Although this is a 60s dress, it is a timeless black cocktail dress. And if you have been watching current fashion, you have seen these nude insets are back in a big way. This dress is a black rayon crepe with a deep but narrow nude mesh inset. This and the neckline are outlined with prong set rhinestone trim. The front bodice has a wide V neckline while the back is a deep scoop. The bodice seaming stylishly echoes the V neckline with small darts, plus curved torso darts that release in the skirt. The dress is well made with taffeta bodice lining, and a skirt interlining. There is a metal back zipper to close.

1920s Green Satin Dress Beaded in Pink and Gold

We have a rare find - an American made 1920s beaded dress with Prosanis label. The Prosanis label was is use 1924 - 1929 and showed that the garment was made under "healthy, clean  safe and fair" working conditions approved by the Joint Board Sanitary Control of New York. The Board was supported in this by the ILGWU, but this is not strictly speaking a Union label.
That said, this c. 1925 dress  is a neat deep forest green silk satin dress with dropped waist, fancy bishop sleeves, smocked skirt sections framed with beading and small cuffs. The beading is done in vertical floral sprays of pink and gold, with dark changeable bugle beads in a lattice motif to frame them into panels. The lattice motif edges the sleeves bands, neckline and cuffs as well.

Label: Prosanis

Size: Bust:  42", High Hip: 40", Shoulders: 15" Sleeves: 26", CB Neck to Hem: 42 1/2", Hem Sweep: 62"

Condition: Very Good. Some soiling, more a sense of it than visible stains. Although there are some dark spots. There is lightening/staining  under both armholes as shown. The beading is intact.

1950s New Look Cotton Multi-Color Print Dress in Summer Colors

This is great! Some of the neatest mid level American fashions of the 50s came out of California. And I love summer dresses with matching shrugs. Perfect for hot days and air conditioned spaces. This cotton dress has a crossover bust line with a bit of draping, wide straps, and a fitted torso. The skirt hangs from the dropped yoke line and has a narrow gathered tier, then a deep gathered skirt. The shrug or bolero jacket is in matching cotton and lined in a solid light green. It is cut kimono style. Center back metal zipper closure.

Label: Jeanette Alexander of California

1920s Glorious Black Chantilly Lace Dress with Tasseled Belt

We were lucky enough lately to find 4 great dresses at a local estate. This is yet one more. This well made dress is entirely made up in a fine Chantilly lace. The border is used at the center front and collar and is turned up at the hem . She must have wanted a smooth hem edge, and yet couldn't bring herself to cut the border. The dress has a silk satin belt with large tasseled silk and silver medallion, and silk satin cuffs with bows. The dress comes with its original beautifully made silk slip - and that's a rare find. Snaps at the center front of the dress and at the side of the slip.

1950 New Look Black Silk Dress by Traina-Norell

1950 Traina-Norell Black Silk Shirtwaist Dress

It was a red letter day when we acquired a Jacques Fath and a Traina-Norell on the same day. This c.1949 - 1950 silk crepe de chine dress is in the shirtwaist style with lovely smocking at the yoke and hip line. The big, statement buttons, so typical of Norell, are mother of pearl with bound buttonholes. The skirt is full and long in the early 50s style. There are small shoulder pads. We show this over a mall crinoline, but it would take a larger one. The long sleeves are gathered and cuffed. And let me say, this is beautifully made. Norman Norell was one of the great American designer and his commitment to impeccable construction was well known.

 c. 1960 Beaded Red Cocktail Dress by Howard Greer
Amazing c. 1959 - 1961 Howard Greer Custom Beaded Red Silk Cocktail Dress

Howard Greer designed some wonderful dresses for film and fashion, didn't he? We have only handled 2 or 3 of these since the 90s. There just aren't that many out there. And this one is stunning. The bodice is red silk chiffon and the skirt is tissue faille. Both are beaded allover with red bugles. The under bodice is the red faille with a solid beaded band along the neckline. The dress closes center back with a handset coil zipper and hooks. It's a beautifully made dress and quite a eye catching example of Greer's work. His dresses carried two labels - the Beverly Hills label and this one, the Custom Original label.

Dramatic 1970s Maurice Print Maxi Dress

This is one dramatic print synthetic knit dress from the 1970s, I must say. The print is almost psychedelic! I do love the vibrant yellow, gold orange and pink swirling floral on the black ground. The bodice is fitted with a scoop neckline, long slim sleeves and a nylon zipper back. The skirt is quite long and straight and is a wrap style in the front. Fair warning - this wrap opens to the waist! As to the mysterious Maurice - his design aesthetic was certainly inspired by Pucci, much as were the Mr. Dino, Paganne and Leonard labels.

Label: ILGWU, 100% nylon and care label. Maurice is printed several times in the fabric.

Size: Labeled a 14. Bust: 43", Waist: 31", Hips: 43", Shoulders: 18" Sleeves: 24", CB Neck to Waist: 18", Waist to Hem: 43", Hem circumference: 52"

Condition: Excellent. One tiny slub on front bodice.
